Daily Ritual To Stay Calm & Grounded With Your Busy Schedule

Life is supposed to be fun; not overwhelming. So many of our conversations these days are all about how busy we are, how overwhelmed we are, and how tired we are.  I don’t know about you but when I am overwhelmed and feel fatigued, the voice of my inner critic becomes louder with negative self-talk, I become reactive, and I have trouble focusing. And sometimes I can start to feel paralyzed which is not productive. In this post I am sharing my special daily ritual that I do daily to stay positive and grounded with my busy schedule.

To me having a daily ritual is all about loving and honoring the woman inside of you who is the most authentic version of yourself. The goal is to create time and space every day to connect with her to see what she needs to feel whole in life. When we ignore what our mind, body and heart needs this is when chronic illness sets in.  Everything that we want in life has to do with the type of relationship that we have with ourselves and what we believe were worthy of having.

I’m a recovering perfectionist there’s nothing I love more than to cross something off my To Do List. I am driven by achievement and I just love the sense of accomplishment I get when I complete something. But I used to have unhealthy boundaries with this mindset and way of living. My my inner critic made me believe that I wasn’t worthy unless I was achieving something, so I was constantly running myself into the ground, over working and it caused me to have health problems. I had digestion issues, I was having trouble with my gallbladder and I was having so much anxiety and fear, it even let me to having an accident nearly breaking my ankle. So, living in an overwhelmed and fatigue state is not sustainable, not healthy and nor is it fun.

“my inner critic made me believe that I wasn’t worthy unless I was achieving something, so I was constantly running myself into the ground, over working and it caused me to have health problems.”

I’m so excited to share my daily ritual with you. When I started to creating the video and blog post it really reminded me just how important this daily ritual has been for my life. I started doing this practice about four years ago during a really challenging time in my life. I had recently lost my father to pancreatic cancer and I was going through a divorce. Every day was waking up with fear and anxiety.  Having a daily ritual helps me stay grounded and has truly helped me stay out of that anxiety and fearful state that I was in. It has helped create a healthier way of being in life that has truly contributed to my success and happiness.

My Daily Ritual:

5:30 a.m. Wake Up & Hydrate

Monday through Friday I wake up at 5:30 AM. The first thing I do is have a glass of room-temperature water. This helps activate the digestive system and start to wake up the other body systems and helps hydrate your body after you been sleeping all night.

Next, I boil a Cup of hot water and sip while I do the rest of my daily ritual. Hot water is good for digestion and helps prevent any cold and flu viruses you may pick up. It also helps cleanse the liver to help keep your skin stay glowing.

Meditation & Breath Practices

Next, I head to my living room and I sit down for my daily meditation. If you haven’t tried meditation, I know you might be thinking “I’m so busy I don’t have time to sit down and do a meditation practice!” I know I hear you; I was once you. But what if I told you that having a meditation practice is the one thing that made me more successful, gave me more confidence, helped me sleep better and cured my anxiety and fearful reactive way I was of living. Would you try meditation then? So that’s what meditation did for me. It actually helped cure my anxiety, gave me more confidence and made my mind clear and focused.  It’s truly been such an important practice that I’ve added to my daily life and I’m so passionate about sharing it with others so they can find the same relief and peace.

I started out with using an application called Headspace it’s an application that does a body scanning.  My current meditation practice is a mantra based meditation that was given to me by my teacher Dr. Joseph Michael Levry. He has some really beautiful mantra music on a site called rootlight.com. When you repeat a mantra over and over it helps the mind reprogram itself from ruminating on negative thoughts and replaces with positive words from the mantra.

I invite you to open your mind and think about what meditation can do for you on a daily basis In addition to meditation, I also do breathing exercises that are so powerful. Breathing helps reset the mind and the body. It helps reset the glandular system, nervous system and parasympathetic nervous systems, so that you can remain calm and keep your mind and body out of flight or fight mode. Breathing also cleanses the organs. Every time you breath deeply your organs are getting massaged getting rid of any toxins. Plus it is natural and free!

I would rather show up calm and collected rather than being fearful and reactive. I do breath practices throughout the day, in the morning, at lunch and then the evening  it’s so powerful. So even if you can’t do anything but just breathing it is powerful enough to help support you.

Gratitude

Okay, the next part of my daily ritual is writing in my gratitude journal.  I write out the things that I am grateful for every day.  If you’re new to doing a gratitude practice, you can write down one to five things you are grateful for. For me I start with one and then suddenly before I know what I have two pages written down of all the things that I’m grateful for. It’s a really special tool especially if you’re having trouble with negative thoughts or feeling sad or if you’re in a challenging time of your life I encourage you to try having a gratitude practice and see how this can help shift your mindset and make you feel better and more positive.

Organization

I know having organization may sound really simple and obvious but it’s really a key part to my success. The night before my next day I write out the top three things that are important for me to accomplish with my work and then also the top three things that I need to accomplish personally for the day. This is so helpful to me. As I’m wrapping up my day I check in to see what I have to do for the next day and it frees up my mind so I can go to bed with a clear head and not worry about what’s coming next. I wake up and I start my daily ritual and already know what to expect and where to focus for the day.

Make It Easy

To make this easier for you, you can do something that’s called schedule blocking. It is something that I do with my schedule, where I block out uninterrupted time in my calendar just to make sure that I do my daily ritual. The other thing that you can do is ask for help. If you’re really busy, maybe you have little ones, and you work full time, and your schedule is just so busy that is hard to even think about where to find this time to connect with yourself. I encourage you to reach out to your partner or anyone who can help support you with this process. We forget that we have people who love and care for us and are waiting for us to ask for help. It’s so important to do things that help you be the best version of yourself especially if we are raising children. We are the leaders in our kid’s lives, it’s so important to lead by example. And if you have mommy guilt, know it’s not selfish to take this time to care for you. This will keep you happy and healthy and ensure you can be there for your family.

If you are interested about learning how to create customized daily ritual for yourself reach out to me, I offer a 30-minute consultation call. We can take a look at your schedule and see how we can create a daily ritual for you in your life to help you stay calm and grounded with your busy schedule. I can’t stress how important this routine has been for me in my life. I shutter to even think about where I would be without this daily routine. My success, my health and my wellbeing has to do with creating this time and space to connect to myself to make sure that I have everything I need to be happy and whole in life. You can do this and I am here for you.

Love and light!
